The Wau Holland Foundation and the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation present:

Hacker and secret services - The light and the dark side of power?

(Film clips and panel)

at the Salon der Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung, Franz-Mehring-Platz 1 (1st floor), 10243 Berlin on Friday, May 23rd, 2014, 7pm (Doors open: 6.30pm, free entrance).

From the hacker archive:

Friday, May 23rd marks the 25th anniversary of the death of Karl Koch alias “Hagbard Celine”, one of the hackers gravitating around the Chaos Computer Clubs. In the middle of the 80s he was involved with the “KGB-Hack” (link in German), where young hacker searched computer systems for information they could exchange for money with the KGB in East Berlin.

In this panel we invite witnesses of these events to reevaluate them from today’s standpoint. Additionally we will draw parallels to nowadays world as some “hackers” are still acting against hacker ethics and work for secret services. Only few of them follow their conscience and find the courage to return to the light side of power, as Edward Snowden did.

Clips from the movie 23 will be shown as an introduction to the discussion.

Speakers:

  • Thomas Ammann (journalist)
  • Steffen Wernery (CCC director at the time of the KGB hack)
  • Andy Müller-Maguhn (CCC member at the time of the hack - later he was director and speaker of CCC)
  • Susanne Lang (writer / Die LINKE)

The panel will be moderated by Bernd Fix, Wau Holland Foundation
